The organizers of the Maccabiah wanted to show the world the sporting ability of the Jews and their strength, in contrast to the diasporic Jewish image that the Zionist movement wanted to change. The Maccabiah was held in the Land of Israel, and was intended to strengthen the relationship with the Diaspora, and to make more Jews immigrate to Israel.
