Meir Dizengoff, the first mayor of Tel Aviv, assigned his private house in 1931 as a home for Tel Aviv’s museum. As years went by the house on Rothschild Boulevard was no longer capable of serving the purpose for which it was assigned. In 1962 the municipality set aside a large tract of land on King Saul Boulevard and in 1971 the new building was inaugurated. It contains many exhibition halls and pavilions for display, as well as a large auditorium.
